The world of air conditioning and refrigeration has always offered a wide range of solutions for cooling spaces and creating a controlled environment. Since 2004, Friax Industrie has positioned itself as a specialist in bottle protection by designing products specifically dedicated to wine preservation.

Choosing a wine cellar air conditioner is not a simple task… Friax stands out with products specifically developed to meet the unique challenges of wine storage and cellar design—ensuring that no risk is ever taken!

Why not just install a standard residential air conditioner in the wine cellar?

Standard air conditioners do a great job of regulating the ambient temperature in living spaces and creating a feeling of coolness, but a wine cellar requires a truly controlled and stabilized environment:

Sudden temperature changes affect wine by causing irregular aging and irreversible deterioration of its aromas.

Overly humid cellars damage labels and corks, partly reducing the value of precious bottles and increasing the risk of mold or contamination.

Overly dry cellars deteriorate corks, allowing air to enter the bottles and causing irreversible oxidation of the wine.

Air conditioning your wine cellar to control its atmosphere is essential to preserving the investment that wine represents.

A Friax air conditioner is designed with all these challenges in mind to offer flawless protection. At the core of every unit is a highly advanced control system, packed with technology dedicated to wine preservation.

No matter what your cellar holds—whether a few euros’ worth or several million—we see a heritage that must be protected at all costs. We take no risks with bottle safety: unlike standard air conditioners, our units include multiple layers of redundancy to ensure wines are always kept in optimal conditions.

The intelligent regulation system detects temperature faults at every level, as well as communication errors between components, and automatically switches the unit to safety mode. For even greater protection, features such as safety thermostats, heating circuit breakers, and humidifier safeguards are just some of the mechanical systems that will preserve your cellar in the event of a malfunction, user error, or system failure.

Why does a Friax air conditioner is the best choice?

2-year manufacturer warranty / 10 years of spare parts availability

Designed and manufactured in France

Air conditioning and humidification as standard on all products in the range (except Onyx)

Automatic humidification program between air conditioning cycles

Evaporation (cooling) cycles specifically adapted to reduce the natural drying of the cellar

Integrated heating with additional mechanical safety thermostat (except specific products for cabinets)

Automatic switching of operating settings between seasons and unstable climatic periods

Mechanical safety features against leakage and electronic failure risks

Use of R290 in a sealed circuit OR non-flammable R513a, ensuring system longevity, safety, and specifically developed for low temperature applications (unlike R32 systems which require specific safety measures)

Wireless radio remote control (compatible with the connected system WineSupervisor: developed for RJ45 connection and using radio frequency to overcome architectural connectivity issues in cellars)

The error code AHRH on your remote control or on the screen of your Winespervisor 3 means that the humidity in your cellar is too high.

The average humidity best suited for a wine cellar should be between 55 and 75%. More or less significant periodic variations can occur without affecting the bottles.
If the humidity in the cellar is systematically above 80%, first of all check the FSTY setting of the indoor unit’s ventilation (see commissioning manual).
This parameter is used to define the state of the fan when the cellar has reached its temperature and humidity points.
3 setting options:
-GV: factory setting, the fan remains at its nominal operating speed to ensure maximum circulation of the air in the cellar. Disadvantage, the water contained in the tray under the evaporator continues to humidify the air circulating in the device, which depending on the configuration of the cellar can increase the humidity too much.
-PV: The fan switches to low speed for devices equipped with multi-speed fans (EVA2, H2OA, EVG, EVI, MPCG, MPCA). In this case, the air is mixed with little impact on humidification.
-OFF: As soon as the temperature and humidity points are reached, the cellar ventilation stops. The first value on demand will restart the air conditioning or humidification system.

Solution :
Before any other operation, switch the ventilation to OFF if ever the humidity in the cellar is too high. It may take a few days to return to normal humidity depending on the case.
If, despite this, the humidity remains too high, check with a hygrometer that the value of the probe is correct. If this is not the case, calibrate the probe (See commissioning manual).
Check that the appliance’s condensates are properly evacuated outside and do not saturate the atmosphere of the cellar.
Check that no outside ventilation interferes with the operation of the air conditioning and does not add excess humidity.
Install a Winesupervisor 3 which will make it possible to check the stability of the temperature and humidity and to carry out technical analyzes on the operation of the cellar.

If, despite this, the humidity in the cellar remains too high, contact your installer or your distributor, who will contact Friax customer service.

The WineSupervisor displays an OFFLINE status on the cellar page.

There are 2 situations for the OFFLINE status:

“Loss of radio communication from WineSupervisor”

The box is too far from the cellar and cannot communicate. This is often due to the configuration of the premises: If you have a problem with the distance, move your WineSupervisor closer to the cellar and pull an RJ45 cable or use a Poweline device for a connection through the electrical network of the house.

The box is not synchronized with the air conditioner. This sometimes happens after a RESET of the air conditioner. You must then follow the synchronization steps.

“Loss of Internet connection from WineSupervisor”

Your network is no longer connected to the Internet: check your modem.

Your internet or electrical network has suffered disturbances: restart your WineSupervisor by disconnecting it electrically for a few seconds then reconnecting it – you should return to ONLINE status after a few minutes of operation.

To go further …

The WineSupervisor is well synchronized with the air conditioner (green status LED ◙ + no ArF alarm on the remote control)

Your network is correctly connected to the internet (see supplier box / modem)

You have connected the RJ45 cable to the network before connecting the power supply to the WineSupervisor (steps 1 and 2 of the installation guide)

After these steps you still do not have access to your cellar? >> You may have a personalized configuration in place on your network: contact your IT service provider – traditional internet service providers do not block the system.

To operate the WineSupervisor uses an outgoing protocol on ports TCP 7979 and TCP 7978 – your service provider may need to open these ports. We are able to assist you if the network allows your WineSupervisor to access the internet.

How to read and interpret the information transmitted by the WineSupervisor?

When the WineSupervisor is ONLINE, you receive up-to-date information on the cellar atmosphere and the operating status of the air conditioner every minute. (If the WineSupervisor displays an OFFLINE status, you may need to perform an action on the box)

Once connected to your cellar, the screen is divided into 2 parts:

LIVE information on the upper part (portrait mode on mobile):

Observed temperature and setpoint

Observed humidity and setpoint *

Device Status (Normal / Standby / Defrost / Security Mode)

Operating status of the various elements (Compressor / Heating / Humidifier)

Lighting and silent mode activation *

Observation of the state of the fans (in expert mode)

History curves on the lower part (landscape mode on mobile):

Cellar temperature curve

Hygrometry curve *

Setpoint temperature curve (in expert mode)

Condenser temperature curve (in expert mode)

* on compatible devices / finishes

Understanding the curves:

The curve display, in Easy or Expert mode, represents the regulation cycles of the device. By reading it in depth, it is possible to find the different operating states and to demonstrate the good conservation of the wines in the cellar.

A technician will be able to use this history to make diagnostics and identify the important stages of the air conditioners – such as defrost for example – thus facilitating maintenance operations.

The successive waves shown on the screen are completely normal and attest to the good health of the air conditioner: the operation of a regulation cycle is based on activating the air conditioner to always remain within a range of + 1 ° C from the setpoint on the temperature probe: the variation of + 1 ° C on the probe is not significant for the cellar or its wines due to the thermal inertia of the bottles and elements present in the room. This strategy makes it possible in particular to increase the lifespan of the device as well as its energy efficiency without taking any risk for the bottles.

Understanding energy efficiency :

The energy efficiency display is mainly the indicator of the good insulation of the cellar and can help to check the correct sizing of the air conditioner. This calculation takes into account the operating time (cooling and heating) of the devices over the last 24 hours – the indicator will be green for normal daily operation.

1 – PRICE INFORMATION

We have now been living with the COVID-19 pandemic for over 1 year. We discovered together the effects of this virus and the measures that had to be taken to combat it. We have all made an effort to pass this difficult stage and move forward. Unfortunately, the effects of the virus attack both health and all sectors of the global economy. After the border closures and the shutdown of many factories around the globe in 2020, producers are unable to keep up with the strong demand of 2021. The supply is not sufficient for the demand which has exploded these months, causing a significant increase in the price of raw materials, transport, risks of shortages and lengthened deadlines …

Despite a range Made in France, we are highly dependent on the supply of components whose prices are set by international markets. Our products are impacted by the unprecedented fluctuation and deregulation of short with a double-digit increases.

Considering this unprecedented context, the prices published in our 2021 catalog may be subject to change. Please contact us for any price validation.
As always, we remain available to assist you in your wine cellar projects.

For 2021 we promised you a year of innovation, and we will keep our promise!
Despite difficult decisions, we remain here to reinvent the design of the cellar, the protection of wine and the planet! Friax will be at your side for new projects and new opportunities. Our factory and our offices remain open at normal office hours thanks to the application of measures to fight against the virus.

2 – COVID-19 prevention

Friax Industrie is following the French Government’s measures to stem the spread of the Coronavirus and protect the health of all.

Since the start of this health crisis, we have put in place the necessary barrier measures in all our departments to ensure business continuity and honor our order book while protecting people.

The health and safety of our teams and our customers have always been at the heart of our priorities and this is even more the case today with the global Coronavirus pandemic. The measures taken include the application of social distancing, the provision of disinfectants and protective equipment, in addition to the organization of web sessions to stay in contact with our customers.

A few simple steps to limit the risk of transmission:

Wash your hands several times a day with soap or a hydroalcoholic solution

When you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve or a disposable tissue

Avoid handshake

Wear a mask in the presence of other people

Install your local contact tracing application to be notified in the event of contact with a patient diagnosed positive

3 – 3D Printing Reserve

We participated in the national effort to protect healthcare workers from the first lockdown!

In addition to our usual activity, we have decided to contribute to the protection of caregivers by joining the 3D PRINTING RESERVE.

Our 8 3D printers have been mobilized to help healthcare workers protect themselves from COVID19 with face shields. We produced and distributed the necessary material free of charge by responding to local or Reserve requests.

It is recommended that you never unplug your cellar air conditioner in winter.
Even for Genesis models which do not heat the cellar, Friax air conditioners are fitted with a crankcase heater on the compressor, controlled by an external sensor. This allows the compressor to be heated when the outside temperature is lower than that in the cellar. Indeed in this case if the group is stopped, the refrigerant naturally migrates to the coldest part, the compressor, and will fill it with liquid. The reheating of the latter by the resistance has the effect of evaporating this liquid and avoiding a fatal “liquid hit” to the compressor when it will restart in summer.

With RSF Friax regulation, you can stop your Genesis air conditioner in winter if you wish while keeping the compressor crankcase heater function on standby:
On wireless controls, press and hold ● until “off” appears on the remote control. The air conditioning stops working but the management of the crankcase resistance is maintained.

AS2C is a type 2 alarm that stops air conditioners equipped with a temperature / humidity sensor (Vintage Models).
It is triggered when the controller no longer detects the probe.

Two cases may occur:

1) The fault appears and none of the following actions make it disappear:
– Refreshment by validating OK
– Stop and start ON / OFF
– Power failure and power on

Check all probe connections to see if a wire is unplugged.
If the device does not start contact your installer to change the probe.

2) The fault appears randomly and disappears during a refresh or during one of the operations (ON / OFF, Power failure, Reset …)

On the splits system, the probe is connected via an RJ45 cable. It is important that this cable is the one supplied (length 5m), that it is not wound on itself and does not pass near the power cables.
You have the option to disassemble the probe to replace it elsewhere in the wine cellar.

Still in default?
So, the hypothesis of a false contact is most likely meticulously check by manipulating all the connections the probe / card path.
If you have not found a solution to your problem, contact FRIAX Customer Service.

In the case where a significant dehumidification is necessary due to a massive influx of water by infiltration by the soil or the walls of the cellar (Ambience with more than 80% of relative humidity), it is recommended to use a dehumidifier independent of the air conditioning. The devices of the Friax ranges are not studied to satisfy directly this type of application.

Is it possible to install a VINTAGE device without connecting it to water?

When the connection to the running water of the humidifier is impossible and it is necessary to be able to heat the cellar in winter, you will still have to install a Vintage model.
In this case, set the humidifcator setpoint to 50%, which will prevent the solenoid valve from being energized in case of humidity demand by the control unit.

You can also connect the water supply of the humidifier to a small tank placed high up to the device which will moisten the cellar effectively.

Friax offers various KLP connection kits for the humidifiers of its Vintage devices very easy to implement without specific tools. The flexible water tube with a diameter of 6.35 mm is supplied in different length depending on the kits.

The ASL code on your remote is the low threshold temperature alarm in the cellar. This means that the temperature is below the low temperature threshold.

Check the temperature with a thermometer to know the actual temperature of your cellar.

Genesis Models: Cold Operation Only

The compressor is stopped. the cellar naturally descends in temperature. The outside temperature is too low and the insulation of your cellar may not be good enough. We advise you to see to improve the insulation or to pass on a Vintage model.

The temperature is lower than the set point and the compressor runs continuously. There may be a problem with the control board or the settings have been changed.
You can reset with the remote control to reset the factory settings. If there is no improvement, contact your installer.

For vintage models: Cold, warm and humidification operation

The heating mode icon indicates that your unit has switched to heating.
-Check that the evaporator fan is on and that the heater is heating up. if this is the case it is possible that the power is not sufficient: strengthen the insulation of your cellar.
-The fan or heating resistor does not work, contact your installer to check the power supply of the components.

In the case of parts replacement, make your request by noting the model and serial number of the unit.
